Survival Kit


Americans are obsessed with survival. How so many people fight and scratch for the right to kill their unborn children and sick grandparents and pass every conceivable law to keep them alive in-between. We’ve put into law seat-belts and bike helmets and banned lead-based paint. To guard our children’s fragile self-esteem, we’ve banned dodge-ball and picking teams and keeping score.

I remember as a kid riding in cars with no air bags, no seat belts, and metal dashboards. We rode in the back of pickups. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors, or cabinets, and when we rode our bikes we didn’t wear helmets. We drank water from the garden hose.

We would spend hours building go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into trees & bushes a few times, we figured out the problem. We played dodge ball and sometimes the ball would really hurt.

Now, I’m all for survival. But, as usual, we’ve taken an issue and run away with it. We’ve gotten just a bit carried away. Now a days, we need a survival kit to protect us from survival issues.

If you have read my writing you know I’m leading up to some biblical scripture that has importance pertaining to my examples. Well! Guess what? I’m going to do just that…
This survival thing that most families today take into there own lives. I have come up with a spiritual survival kit of a different sort.

Matthew 28:19-20:
19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Item #1: a Toothpick - to remind you to pick out the good in others, pick that which is good and pure to follow.

Philippians 4:8-9:
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-- think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me-- put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
Item #2: a Rubber band - to remind you to be flexible. Things don’t always go your way, but they will work out because you have been called and he loves you!

Colossians 3:12-14:
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Item #3: a Band Aid - to remind you to heal hurt feelings better bring plenty though. A lot of people are hurting these days and they may need to borrow yours.



Ephesians 1:3:
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
Item #4: a Pencil - to remind you to list your blessings everyday. Make sure it’s sharp or you may miss something!

Colossians 3:13-14:
13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all.
Item #5: an Eraser - to remind you that everyone makes mistakes.

Item #6: Chewing Gum - to remind you to stick with it and you can accomplish anything. (I usually get sugar free, but I need all the sugar God has for me!)

Philippians 4:13:
I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
Item #8: a Paper Clip – you can bend it into any shape to remind you of your strength in him.

John 3:16-18:
16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
Item #7: Mint - to remind you that you are worth a mint, were talking more than Fort Knox here everybody!

II Corinthians 13:12-14:
12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13 All the saints send their greetings. 14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
Item #8: Candy Kiss - To remind you that everyone needs a hug or a kiss



I Thessalonians 5:16-19:.
16 Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not put out the Spirit’s fire;
Item #9: Tea Bag - To remind you to relax and trust the Lord as you go over your list of blessings

John 3:16:

Item #10: a Nail - To remind you that Jesus loves you period

Matthew 9:35-38:
35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."
Item # 11: Glasses - To see the needs of others.

There are many other things you can add to your kit as well. Be it shoe strings to remind you to run the race or maybe buy yourself a Honda to remind you of fellowship. What, you don’t understand the Honda reference???

Don’t you remember where they were all sitting in one ACCORD in the book of Acts?

The thing is this, don’t forget to remember the who, what, where, when, why and how!
Who? ‘God’ who loves you!
What? ‘The Word of God’ is what he wants you to know!
Where? ‘Heaven’ that’s were the party is!
When? ‘When he calls you’!
Why? Because ‘He Loves you’ without exception!
How? Through the ‘Blood of Jesus’ you are saved!

That’s the true survival kit!
